The BSKA has comprehensive training syllabus which draws on the full range of basic techniques (kihon), form (kata) and sparring (kumite) contained within the Shitō-ryū system.
The BSKA grading syllabus is structured to test the student’s competencies progressively. Great attention is paid to pedagogy in terms of the teaching principles and methods of instruction. What this means is that a student learns all of the core elements that are characteristic of all styles of karate, but via teaching methods that are designed to develop a clear and concise understanding of both theory and practice. There is a clear link between kihon, kata and kumite in the teaching and learning process within BSKA clubs that is also reflected in the structure of the grading syllabus.
